Hi everyone,

I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experience with concussion and HD. Dad had a bad fall yesterday and was taken to the hospital (he needed stiches in his head) and has concussion.

I just wanted to know if anyone knows what affect this will have on him in the short and long term - hopefully no more than if a person without HD had concussion.

He is still quite confussed and dazed this morning, but having seen concussion in people without HD I know this can be quite normal.

I haven't had a chance to speak with his normal GP about this yet and no one at the hospital could seem to give me an answer on it, they weren't all that knowledgable about HD in the emergency ward.

Big hugs
Carls xo

Sorry to hear about his fall! That in itself must be worrying without stitches and concussion to deal with. Anything that causes stress is bad for HD but I haven't come across anything specific to concussion - that doesn't mean it wouldn't complicate things further, only that there really wouldn't be much research into concussion specifically as opposed to traumatic events in general.

There is a known anaesthetic that is bad for HD patients, but that is not used in Australia except in really exceptional circumstances (allergies to normal anaesthetic) and there was something on Panadol a year or so ago - if used regularly for pain relief - asprin and neurophen are the preferred options from memory. Maybe someone on here might know more medical related stuff, but I hope this helps sooth the nerves a little??? All the best for a speedy recovery!

Sorry your dad had a fall, Carls. I hope the confusion passes soon and you can find the information you need.

Hey Lilcarls...sorry to hear about your dads incident :( Thats awful. I hope he recovers Ok.

When my mum lived at Lotty Stuart in Syd for while there were several people there who wore helmets. So I imagine concussion and head injuries are really common. You could give Angella Lownie a call at Lotty Stuart if you have any ongoing concerns    (02) 9858 3255 or questions about head injuries.

Your poor dad...I do hope he recovers Ok.

Big hugs for you!Image

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the replies. I haven't been able to find anything out, but Dad is recovering well. I will post anything I do find on here.

Hello Lilcarls
Sorry to hear about your dad, but glad you now report he is recovering.
I had a bit of a whip round but could not find stuff specifically on HD and concussion- sorry
I agree that as Michelle suggested, a call to Angela Lownie could be helpful
Bye for now and keep smiling
Mark
