We are really hoping to come. Do you mind me asking I am just a very curious person. How many people are you expecting to come along and how many have attended in the past?

Hey Daisy - I like easy questions like this one :)

The facility can take 200 people, but the committee will be happy if they get 150. I think it was similar numbers at the last conference in Adelaide but someone else might be able to confirm this.

Hope you can come so I can put a face to your name :)

Hey Daisy it would be great if you can come Image

Shy will they touch on 'choosing to have a family' in any of the presentations? I imagine this would be a big topic of interest for a lot of younger people planning families.

Daisy Ive been to a few conferences now and its great to meet other people...and listen to the talks...it really helps to feel "connected" into something bigger than our own little worlds...and its always good to hear the researchers are working hard Image

Also if anyone is living on the Mid North Coast of NSW we have raised funds within our area to assist people to attend conferences. This could be used for transport, registration, accommodation etc. Please contact the NSW Association for an application form.

Cheers
Michelle

Hey Michelle, I suggested 'choices in having a family' as a topic but they thought it would be a smaller group interested in that and was considering a 'break away' group for it, but I don't think it progressed any further than that - I shall ask the committee at the next meeting. It should be raised in the panel and the geneticist, but if you write down a specific question for the panel it will be discussed in greater depth. That goes for any other questions you guys are interested in asking the panel, of course questions will be limited.

Great that you guys did some fundraising to assist families to attend :)

Hi All,

To anyone contemplating attending, I'd recommend it, very highly. I've been to Adelaide and Hobart conferences, and as a 'newcomer' to the HD family, I found these conferences very enlightening, and friendly - a great place to learn 'stuff' and meet others with similar stories or experiences.

It was good to meet in person people like Michelle (from this forum), guest speakers like Jimmy, and many others... I recognise names from the conference programme Gerry, Shiralee; ... and too many others to mention.

So, do it!

Good luck Qld for a successful conference, sorry that I cannot be there too.

Now that I've finally signed on here, I'll look forward to reading some post conference reports.

Cheers, Bruce. (Tasmania)

ImageImageImage Yeehaw, I have booked flights (thanks to my Mum online), I booked my motel which is within walking distance to the Convention Centre so all I have to do now is book the conference. I will have to take the forms to Mum's as I don't have a credit card so she can pay and I can send the forms in by mail.

Look forward to seeing you all there, nervous but I have time to try to relax and get excited about going.

Bruce - whereabouts in Tasmania are you? I grew up in Claremont, you could see Cadbury's roof from our house on top of the hill.

Hi Buddybird,
Hope you enjoy the conference, I know you will.
I'm originally from Launceston, but now south of Hobart.
I do know Cadburys building though. Been there a few times, and pretty partial to their product !!
They don't do tours there any more, but you can still pay to watch a video, and then get entry to the 'seconds' shop.
Enjoy the warmer weather in Brissie.
cheer, Bruce.

Bruce,

Excuse me? You can pay to watch a video!!!! ImageAs a school trip we went through on a tour and along the way the workers would pop a choc or lolly into a child's mouth. Now you watch a video, unreal. At the end we did get lots of choccies, who cares if they are seconds - chocolate is chocolate and if it's free even better. Image

Glad you decided to move south to the more 'elite' part of Tassie. ImageImage

Excellent Daisy, what hotel are you booked into? I only posted my form off yesterday and I rang them first and they didn't say it was too late so I paid online for the dinner as well.

Looking forward to meeting you there.

Oh Nay is coming? Nothing like thinking about it for a while before deciding Image am so glad Nay. WooHoo. Had my hair cut especially today in case you changed your mind - not that anyone will notice. Should have had it died green so everyone would notice it. Image So Nay where are you staying then?

Waiting to hear where Daisy is staying too, apparently I am within 10mins walking distance but the way I walk it might take 20 minutes. Image My dear Mum paid for my accommodation and airfares and bus so a big hug to her for encouraging me to go. Image

I don't know whether I will be able to sit through your speech Michelle if it's about us but I will see how I go. I will know people to sit with and if it gets too much I might need to leave quietly - I will sit where you can't see me, one leg out the door just in case.

Busy hand washing clothes to bring, might get some washing done tomorrow if I can organise myself. Desperately need a washing machine but have to wait for forms to arrive, be filled out etc.
